Abstract

723,103. Tractors. HARGREAVES & CO., Ltd., W. June 3, 1952 [June 2, 1951], No. 13131/51. Class 79(1). In an articulated tractor-trailer combination, the tractor and trailer each having a pair of coaxial wheels, the coupling between the tractor and trailer is formed by a universal joint between the tractor and a drawbar on the trailer and a tie bar between the drawbar and a part of the tractor frame, the tie bar being disposed substantially vertical when the tractor and trailer are in their straight-ahead positions and the tie bar having pivotal connections at its ends to accommodate steering movements of the tractor for which the tractor is provided with steering handles. As shown there are arranged beneath the axle of the two-wheeled tractor horizontal members a a<SP>1</SP>, between which is located a vertical swivel pin b, the pin being embraced by a U-shaped link c and the link c being connected by a pin d to the trailer drawbar e. Arranged beneath the steering handles f of the tractor is a U-shaped member g carrying a bracket h. Through the bracket h passes the upper part i of the tie rod, the part i having a threaded portion engaged by a nut j arranged within the bracket h, a look nut i<SP>1</SP> being provided. The part i is connected by a transverse pin k to the lower part i<SP>1</SP> of the tie rod, which at its lower end carries a stirrup l located on the draw bar e so that it can turn and slide thereon, a removable bolt l<SP>1</SP> retaining the stirrup on the draw bar.
