Abstract

687,492. Couplings for vehicles. MANN, EGERTON & CO., Ltd. Feb. 15, 1951 [Jan. 3, 1950], No. 161/50. Class 103 (v). [Also in Group XXX] In a towing cradle attached to the rear of a mobile breakdown crane, vehicle-engaging arms 2 are lifted by the crane hook 19 and are guided by a parallelogram linkage 8, 9. The arms 2 carry a vehicle engaging adapter 5 similar to that described in Specification 681,252. The cradle is pivotally attached by a pin 15 to a pair of plates 16 secured to the crane chassis. In a modification (not shown) the crane chassis carries two pairs of spaced plates which are connected by vertical pins to a pair of tubular members on the cradle which also constitute the bearings for pivot pins 10, 11. In a further modification (not shown) a. wheel is provided beneath pivot 7.
