833,636. Ball-and-socket couplings. WILSON, A. Nov. 7, 1956 [Nov. 9, 1955], No. 32040/55. Class 103(5) A ball-and-socket coupling comprises, a socket member 6 pivoted to the hitch 2 at 5 and spring biased to the socket open position, and a wedging block 11 mounted on a shaft 12 forming part of a handle grip which is pulled downwardly by a spring 16 to engage the block 11 behind the member 6 in a ball engaging position as shown. The ball may be released by lifting the handle 14 and the shaft 12 to raise the block 11 against pins 26 on the member 6 so that the member may pivot and open the socket. A spring-pressed locking plunger passing through the boss 15 and into a hole in the boss 13 may be provided.
