Abstract

556,536. Lamp-holders. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd, May 12, 1942, No. 6438. Convention date, May 16, 1941. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XI] A mounting for a tubular lamp comprises a lampholder 20 protruding through a reflector 23 to which it is attached by an adjustable device that enables lamps of different diameters to be located correctly in the reflector. At one end of the lamp a starting device 22 is provided and at that end the lamp holder has attached thereto a socket coupling 21 to receive the starting device and connect it in circuit, as described in Specification 544,562, the mounting of the socket being adjustable. The holder 20 is of the type having an annular space 27 to receive a pair of pin contacts on the lamp cap and guide them into engagement with spring contacts 31, 32. These are connected by screws 37, 38 to the electric supply, one of them 37 constituting a terminal for the direct connection of a lead entering through a slot 54 and the other 38 making connection to a plate 50 attached to one contact of a coupling located in the bottom of a recess 40 of the socket coupling 21 to receive the switch device 22. The counting 21 is secured to the lampholder 20 by the screws 37, 38 a spacer 72 being interposed when the coupling is to be lowered to correspond with the lower position of the reflector 23 in respect to the lamp holder, that is when a lamp of larger diameter is in use. The adjustment of the reflector is provided for by attaching the reflector to the flat part of a bracket 60 which is recessed at 69 to fit round the switch housing 22. Ears 61 on the bracket enter either of the slots 62, 63 in the lamp holder, an offset tongue 64 entering a recess 65, the bracket being inverted in changing it from one slot to the other and a screw 67 serving to secure the tongue 64 in the recess 65. When the reflector is in the higher position the spacer 72 is omitted so that the housing 22 still projects far enough through the reflector to allow its being gripped when it is to be removed. The socket fitting 21 is made reversible so that the switch housing 22 can be arranged outside the lamp holder 20, and it can be inverted as shown in Fig. 10, so that the housing is accessible from below.
