436,167. Electric - lamp holders. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RICHARDS, S. W., Magnet House, Kingsway, London. April 26, 1934, No. 12614. [Class 39 (ii)] [See also Group XXXVI] A fitting for connecting two lengths of supply cable and for supporting a lamp connected to the supply, comprises a pair of double-ended socket contacts 8 for the power line, and a third double-ended socket contact 10 for a pilot line controlling a remote switch. The plug member 23 attached to each cable end 28 carries corresponding pin contacts 25, the pin for the pilot line being longer than the pins for the power lines and the socket 10 of the pilot line being short so as to break contact with its pin before contact is broken between the longer power sockets 8 and their pins 25. Breaking of the pilot circuit opens the remote switch so that the power couplings are not live when their contacts separate. A lamp-holder body 13 is fixed in a recess 11 in the insulating body 7 of the coupling by screws 14 that enter central blocks 9 integral with the power sockets 8 and form the lamp-holder contacts. The lamp 16 is held against these screws 14 by a spring ring 15. The screw ring 19 that secures a glass bell 17 over the lamp may grip the bell against a fixed ring 20 as shown, or against a spring- mounted platform that carries the lampholder 12 so that if the bell is removed the springs press the holder downwards, severing contact between its terminals and the contact studs then provided on the body 7.
