Abstract

636,889. Lamp fitting for a discharge lamp. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 17, 1947, No. 7329. Convention date, March 18, 1946. [Class 75 (iv)] A fitting for a discharge lamp comprises an adaptor for securing the fitting to a support, a ballast, a reflector and a lamp holder, the parts being held together by a screw which extends through an aperture in the adaptor to engage a threaded nozzle provided on the lamp holder and extending through an aperture in the reflector and through a passageway in the ballast. A circular fluorescent lamp 6 is supported by a lamp holder 5 of the type described in Specification 618,128 and comprising a straight channel member 7 having spaced arms 8, 9 one of which is fixed and carries an electric contact receptacle for the lamp contact pins, the other being pivoted and spring biased into contact with the lamp wall. A dish-shaped reflector 14 is mounted above the lamp holder and serves to conceal a choke or auto-transformer 12 housed in a circular casing having a central passageway 13. An adaptor cup 16 for securing the fitting by means of screws 4 to the decorative shell 2 of a ceiling fitting for an incandescent lamp is positioned on the choke casing. The parts are held together by a threaded hollow nipple 17 which passes downwardly through an opening in the cup 16 and through the passageway 13 in the choke casing to engage a threaded nozzle 11 provided on the lamp holder and extending upwardly through a central aperture in the reflector 14. An electrical plug receptacle 25 is screwed into the incandescent bulb socket 3 of the ceiling fitting and a cap 24 is plugged into the receptacle 25 to make electrical connection to the fluorescent lamp. A starter switch 23 of known type is mounted on the reflector.
