Abstract

556,315. Air supply to furnaces. PLOMIEN FUEL ECONOMISER CO., Ltd., and STEUERMAN, M. March 26, 1942, No. 4008. [Class 51 (i)] A preheater for supplying air above the firegrate of a furnace comprises a rectangular hollow body 1 having its front wall 2 formed on its outer surface with parallel convex ribs 19 and on its inner surface with equally spaced baffles 15, a back cover plate 25 for the hollow body having an elongated air inlet opening 30 at the bottom, a flap 13 pivoted on trunnions 22 in bearings 23 on the end walls of the body 1 and formed with baffles 26 similar to and interleaving with the baffles 15, and means to adjust the flap to control the flow of air from the inlet 30 to a row of downwardly inclined conical discharge openings 7 consisting of a screwed stem 31 mounted in a sleeve 32 on the plate 25 and screwing into a nut 35 housed non-rotatably in a recess 36 in the flap 13. The preheater is secured by studs 38 to a door or other furnace part with the gap 30 registering with a corresponding gap or holes in the door. The lower part of the wall 2 is stepped and formed with a ridge 12 against which the flap 13 seats in its closed position.
