Abstract
556,017. Furnace fronts. McKEAN, J. G. April 9, 1942, No. 4655. [Class 51 (i) The furnace opening in the inner wall 1 of a double walled furnace front has a flat lower surface 3 and an arched upper surface 31 and is surrounded by a machined surface 11 against which a circular plate 18 carrying an openended cylindrical air director 19 is secured by studs 16 when the furnace is fired by an oil burner 7 carried by a door 6 in the outer wall 2. The lower part of the surface 11 is bordered by a flange 12. When the furnace is to be fired by coal the plate 18 and burner fittings are removed and a saddle piece 13 formed with depending flanges 14, 15 and having its upper surface flush with furnace dead-plate 8 is secured at the studs 16. A baffle 20 is also secured to the door 6. A damper-controlled opening 4 leading into the ash space may be closed by a plate secured to the inner wall 1 and the grate may be covered with broken firebricks while the furnace is fired by the oil burner.
