Abstract
560,443. Refuse consuming &c. furnaces. LEMAN, H. L., and DODMAN, H. A. Jan. 7, 1943, No. 333. (Class 51 (i)] A furnace for consuming refuse, heating boilers, kilns and the like is built into a ground pit with its top substantially at ground level and comprises a combustion chamber 3, Fig. 1, having an inclined stepped grate 5 supplied with air for combustion from a chamber 2 enclosed at the top by a plate 17 and air admission grating 18. Fuel is fed on to the grate through an opening provided with a door 14. Combustion products pass from the combustion chamber over a bridge wall 6 to a dust chamber 7 and baffled flue 19 provided with a water trough for extinguishing sparks. The bars 9 of the grate, Fig. 3, are provided with front and rear flanges 11, 12 and spacing webs 10.
