Abstract

926,428. Incinerators. CITY OF DUSSELDORF. April 21, 1961 [April 22, 1960], No. 14565/61. Class 51 (1). In a refuse incinerator having a supplementary burner spaced rotatable grates are arranged stepwise below a supply shaft and a moving feeder, and refractory surfaces guide the refuse between the grates. Each rotatable grate 5, 6, 7 comprises a roller with firebars 22 forming its surface, and its interior divided into a number of sectors a-f. In operation, half the roller surface lies within the combustion chamber, and air is supplied to the corresponding sectors a, b, c. The grate bars of each sector are arranged to swing about one edge to dump ash as that sector passes out of the combustion chamber. Cold air supplied below the travelling grate 8 passes over the roller grates 5, 6, 7 within a easing behind the guiding walls 9, 10, 11, 12 and is fed to an air preheater for supply between the travelling grate runs and to the roller grates. A burner 14 is directed towards the roller grates. In a modification, Fig. 4, pre. heated air is supplied to the sectors of the roller grates within individual casings behind the walls 9, 10, 11, 12, and the sectors communicate with each other. Bucket wheels 31, 32, 33, 34 feed the ash between the compartments of the casing. The travelling grate may be replaced by a further series of roller grates, which may form a horizontal grate, with the grates being driven at increasing speeds from the input to the output end.
