Abstract
1408965 Incinerators KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 18 July 1973 34288/73 Heading F4B Refuse, particularly plastic waste, is burnt in a furnace on a layer of non-combustible material moved through the furnace by a conveyor and removed together with the incinerated residue. Refuse fed into a furnace at 1 burns on a layer of mineral pebbles or other non-combustible material supplied from a hopper 2, the refuse is ignited by a burner 4, and burns with air from inlets 7 within the incombustible layer, and supplied below the travelling grate by a blower 11. Additional air inlets 6 and an auxiliary burner 5 are arranged above the grate. The incinerated residue and incombustible material are evaporated in a sieve 12, the incombustible material being returned to the hopper 2. The grate may be an endless band of metal mesh, or formed from overlapping slats (Fig. 4b), or the layer may be moved over a fixed grate by pushers secured to an endless band (Fig. 2). The furnace may comprise a number of endless grates arranged step-fashion, to ensure mixing of the partially burnt refuse with the heat retaining incombustible material, and a second hopper 2<SP>1</SP> forms a sandseal for the combustion chamber.
