Abstract
788,332. Open fireplaces. RADIATION, Ltd. July 10, 1956. [Aug. 18, 1955], No. 23793/55. Class 126. In a grate comprising a cast iron body 5, Fig. 1, containing a grid 6, a partition 7 forms with the rear of the body a passage 8 up which the combustion products pass, and a second partition 9 forms with partition 7 a passage for secondary air. A plate or damper 11, Fig. 2, having a veeshaped protuberance 13 corresponding with a protuberance 14 on the body 5, is pivoted at its lower edge in a recess formed on the partition 7 which in one position closes the upper end of passage 8, and in another partially closes the entrance to the passage 10. The damper 11 is operated by means of a spindle 15 having a quick-pitch screw thread co-acting with a nut' 17, attached by a link 18 to the damper. In a modification, a second damper is used to vary the size of the passage 10.
