Class 126 A damper unit comprises a plate which rests on the top of the fireplace brickwork and having an aperture closed by two plates turning about a common pivot, one plate moving alone for a certain distance in either direction and then carrying the other part with it to fully close or open the flue. A plate a rests on the upper part of the fireplace, and is held against lateral movement by studs c. An opening in the plate a is closed by two plates d, e turning about a common pivot f. A lug e<SP>1</SP> on the plate e engages a lug i on the plate d to close both plates. A pin g serves as a handle to open the plate e, and part way through its travel engages the plate d to open the damper fully. An extension plate k adjustably mounted on ridges near the front of the plate a closes the space behind the fireplace front, and apertures o in the plate, and the space provided below the extension plate k allows smoke to pass to the flue when the damper is closed.
