Abstract

551,254. Crucible furnaces. HALL, L. Jan. 2, 1942, No. 11207/41. [ Class 51 (ii)] A crucible furnace is provided with two or more chambers 2 communicating with the upper part of the combustion zone around the crucible by means of which fuel is fed to the said zone. Each chamber is provided with a fuel feeding aperture 9 having a cover 8 and an aperture 10 for the escape of combustion products to a flue communicating with a common chimney. Instead of a number of separate chambers an annular chamber may be employed having a number of spaced fuel feeding apertures and combustion product outlets. The crucible is supported on a frame 14 with firebars (not shown) arranged thereon. Air for combustion is supplied above and below the grate through apertures 19, 22 from a jacket 18 which may be provided with a partition 24 and means for controlling the supply of air both above and below the grate.
