550,612. Refuse-consuming furnaces. BACHRICH, L. April 15, 1942, No. 4980. [Class 51 (i)] Refuse is fed on to a stepped grate 18, dried and burnt and the gases passed from a combustion chamber A through an opening 5 between an air-cooled base 17 and roof 16 to a vertical flue 4, having a dust-collecting pocket at the base, and thence to a tortuous flue B formed by air cooled baffles 8, 10, 11. The air passages 22 in the floor and roof of the furnace and the air passages 9 in the baffles are open at the sides to the atmosphere. Any moisture which condenses in the flue B escapes by a pipe 24.
