Abstract
548,478. Winding yarns. SCHARER, K. J., (trading as MASCHINENFABRIK SCHARER). Aug. 11, 1941. No. 10178. Convention date, June 18, 1940. [Class 120 (ii)] In a cop winding machine in which the thread guide is fed by a feeler means intermittently advanced along a partly screwed spindle, with which it engages by gravity, by contact with the yarn windings, the spindle is fixed and means is provided for lifting the screwed box of the feeder means in order to free the engagement thereof with the spindle on completion of the winding and to re-engage it therewith by lowering the box after the feeder means has been returned to its initial position; the box of the feeder.means may be threaded for a part of its length only and may be disengaged from the screwed spindle by lifting the end of the bore to incline it. As shown the thread guide carrier 5 is fixed to a sleeve 3 connected by a cone and ball clutch 8, 9 with the reciprocating traverse rod 1 and embraces a sleeve 12 on the partly screwed spindle 16 fixed in the machine frame. The conical feeler 10 is adjustably fixed to the sleeve 12 and at each reciprocation of the thread guide it contacts with the winding on the spool 26 and is fed along the spindle 16 contacting with the thread guide carrier 5, which is fed along the traverse rod 1 by momentarily overcoming the force of the spring 7 holding the sleeve 3 clutched to the traverse rod ; the feeler member 10 engages a wedge-shaped ring 5<SP>1</SP> on the carrier 5 so that the sleeve 12 tends to be tilted to bind the threaded portion 15 thereof on the thread of the spindle 16 and so prevent creeping of the feeler during engagement of the ring 5<SP>1</SP> with the member 10. The narrow threaded portion 15 in the central part of the sleeve 12 normally engages the threads of the spindle 16, but near the end of a winding operation a slide 20 is advanced so that a projection thereon encounters a pin 25 on the carrier 5 and moves it so that a lug 28 thereon engages a terminal cone 13 on the sleeve 12 and lifts the latter so that its threaded portion becomes disengaged from the threads of the spindle 16 and at rounded portion 14 at the other end of the sleeve bears on the spindle ; the lug 28 has sprung into a groove 13<SP>1</SP> in the cone 13 and return movement of the slide 20 causes a pivoted catch 22 thereon to engage the pin 25 and restore the sleeve 12, feeler 10, and thread guide to their initial position where the catch 22 is disengaged from the traverse rod, the feeler hits a stop on the spindle 16, the lug 28 becomes disengaged from the groove 13<SP>1</SP>, and the sleeve 12 falls back into engagement with the threads of the spindle 16. In a modification the thread guide carrier is fixed to a rod which passes through a hollow reciprocating shaft and is clutched thereto by a cone and ball arrangement which is momentarily disengaged from the rod at the end of each traverse.
