Abstract
546,787. Burners for sulphur. JAMES, H. G., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 29, 1941, No. 1170. [Class 75 (i)] An atomizing burner for molten sulphur comprises a steam jacketed tube having an axially disposed orifice and a longitudinally adjustable coaxial tube terminating near the orifice, means being provided for supplying molten sulphur to the space between the tubes and compressed air to the central tube. The tube 1, having a jacket 2, is closed by a plug 18 flared at both ends and the central tube 8, longitudinally adjustable by means of a hand-wheel 11 engaging collars 21, 22 thereon, may be provided with a movable rod the end of which has spiral grooves to give the issuing jet of air a whirling motion; the rod may be used for cleaning the plug 18.
