Abstract
544,202. Gas producer plant. KENNEDY, D. S., and WILLANS, K. W. Dec. 23, 1940, No. 18030. [Class 55 (i)] The hot gas from a gas producer of the crossdraught type is passed into a retort containing bituminous coal 'from which the volatile constituents are distilled off to enrich the producer gas. Air from a fan b is blown into a tuyere a<2>, and the producer gas passes through a pipe d into a retort e containing the bituminous fuel, mixed producer gas and distillates passing by a pipe g to the point of utilization. The coke from the retort is fed by a rotary discharge valve h into a water trough c, and is transferred by a conveyer i to the feed hopper a<1> of the gas producer. The gas from the producer may be preheated by furnace gases before entry into the retort, or the latter may be provided with a heating jacket through which the furnace gases pass.
