Abstract
541,568. Artificial filaments, staple fibre &c. SOWTER, P. F. C. June 1, 1940, No. 9601. [Class 2 (ii)] Artificial staple fibres having a basis of an organic derivative of cellulose are crinkled by subjecting them while free to contract to the action of a medium comprising trichlorethylene, dichlorethylene, or carbon tetrachloride, and a lower aliphatic alcohol. The alcohol employed may be ethyl, methyl, n- or i-propyl alcohol. Water or other diluents or swelling agents may also be present. The staple fibres may be treated as a loose mass or as slivers or rovings. They may be supported on a travelling band while undergoing the treatment. The treatment may be effected by immersion or spraying at room temperature or at temperatures of the order of 50‹C. The fibres may have a basis of cellulose acetate or other cellulose ester or ether. Specification 523,425 is referred to. The Provisional Specification describes also the treatment of threads, yarns, continuous filaments, and fabrics so as to increase their extensibility. Specifications 380,504, and 389,823 also are referred to.
