Abstract
523,425. Artificial fibres; treating textiles &c. with liquids. DREYFUS, H. Jan. 6, 1939, No. 486. [Classes 2 (ii) and 15 (ii)] Staple fibres having a basis of an organic derivative of cellulose and produced by cutting filaments, are crinkled by subjecting them while in a condition in which they are free to contract to the action of a medium comprising a latent solvent and substantially free and preferably entirely free from water. The latent solvent for the cellulose derivative may be methylene or ethylene chloride, or ethyl acetate, diluted if desired with benzene, toluene, xylene, benzine, petrol ether, kerosene, carbon tetrachloride, trichloroethylene, or alcohol. Treatment may be effected at room temperature or at raised temperatures. The fibres may be treated when in a loose mass or in the state of a sliver or roving. The treatment may be effected by immersion, spraying or other methods. The crinkling medium may contain conditioning or de-electrifying agents, or treatment with such agents may be effected separately. Partial or superficial saponification may be effected before or after the crinkling treatment. The fibres which are treated may be obtained by cutting filaments which have been subjected to stretching, e.g. in the presence of wet steam or hot water, or softening agents. The fibres may be of cellulose acetate or other cellulose ester or ether. Specifications 317,025, 317,026, [both in Class 120 (iii)], 357,565, 384,335, 394,702, 409,519, [all in Group IX], 418,226, 438,584, 438,585, 438,586, 438,587, 438,655, 438,656 and 484,192, [Group IX], are referred to.
