Abstract

310,936. British Celanese, Ltd., (Assignees of Dreyfus, C., Platt, H., and Dort, R. G.). May 3 , 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 274,074. Yarns and threads; carbonizing fibres and fabrics.-The process of the parent Specification is applicable to the preparation of spun yarns from staple fibre made of or containing artificial filaments derived from organic derivatives of cellulose and also to the preparation of open work fabrics presenting lace-like or gauze effects. As organic derivatives of cellulose there may be employed esters of cellulose such as the acetate, formate, propionate, and butyrate, cellulose ethers such as methyl, ethyl, or benzyl cellulose. The yarns, threads and fabrics may include in addition other fibres not readily carbonized such as silk, wool, or other animal fibres. As carbonizing agents aluminium chloride or hydrochloric acid are preferred and these may be thickened with starch, dextrin, British gum, gum tragacanth, &c., and applied locally in any desired pattern or design or over the entire surface of the fabric.
