Abstract

534,349. Paint &c. spraying pumps. BOSCH GES., R. Feb. 2, 1940, No. 2026. Convention date, Feb. 24, 1939. [Class 102 (i)] In a manually guided spraying device for atomizing paints and other liquids, of the type wherein a main pump 9, 10 driven by a motor 6 pumps an auxiliary liquid which drives a second pump which sprays the paint through a nozzle 21, the second pump is constituted by a diaphragm pump the diaphragm 14 and valves 19, 41 of which are disposed within a cup-like auxiliary housing 28 which is inserted in a cavity 26 in the main housing 1 of the device, and which contains the ducts 12, 20 leading from the main pump and to the nozzle. The auxiliary liquid preferably consists of an oil which is not injurious to the paint, the main housing is made of a light magnesium alloy, and the auxiliary housing is made of bronze or steel. The auxiliary housing abuts against a shoulder 27 on the main housing and is locked in position by a tangentially directed pin, the ducts 12, 20 passing through discs 30, 31. The valve 41 is depressible to de-aerate the second pump, and its pin 40 is long enough to move the valve 19 from its seat. The rim of the diaphragm 14 is firmly held between resilient rubber rings 45, 46 which are clamped between two tensioning rings, 43, 44, the ring 43, or both rings 43, 44, having grooves such as 47 to prevent the adjacent portions of the resilient rings being displaced towards the centre of the diaphragm. The ring 44 is forced against a collar 48 on the ring 43, which is subsequently flanged over as shown, and the diaphragm assembly is secured in the auxiliary housing by means of an intermediate member 33 and a screw cap 32.
