Abstract

467,948. Spray-producers. FRENCH, L. O. June 30, 1936, No. 18139. [Class 69 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXVII and XI] In a liquid-spraying device, a check valve is normally held against a seating surface by a resilient valve retainer and nozzle member and is opened by the pressure of the liquid to be sprayed. In Fig, 1, the valve 17 is held against a seat on the casing 10 or on a separate member 15 by a steel retainer and nozzle member 22 the outer edge of which is held against a filler member 26 made of bronze, brass or copper by a flanged clamping nut 25. Grooves 19, 20 in the valve lead the fuel to the valve seat and the fuel is sprayed through an opening 24 either through tangentially disposed grooves 28 communicating with a conical recess 27 in the end 21 of the valve or through a diametrically extending groove. The end of the valve may be conical. In the pump-injector unit shown in Fig. 5, the valve 37 is held against an inset seat 36 in a separate member 34 by the valve retainer and nozzle member 40 and the fuel is delivered through a slot 39 in the end of the valve to a detachably mounted nozzle 41. In the construction shown in Fig. 9, the valve 52 has a pin 54 which extends through an opening in a flanged retainer and nozzle member and the fuel is delivered through radial passages 57 to an annular groove 56 around the pin 54. The area of the valve seat is reduced by providing it with undercut grooves 59.
