Abstract

613,813. Ball-and-float valves. BARKER, P. R. April 16, 1945, No. 9405. [Class 135] A ball- or float-valve comprises a slidable member within which is a washer holder or carrier bearing two washers, either of which may be presented to a delivery orifice in the valve casing by reversal of the holder or carrier. As applied to a cistern supply valve, a slidable member 12 in the valve casing 1 is operated by a float lever pivoted on a bolt or a split pin 15 and engaging a slot or recess 13. The washer holder 17 which may be of metal, " plastic," or other material is recessed on each face to receive the washers 18 and is held on. the slidable member 12 by a removable screwed sleeve 16 with an inturned flange at one end. A valve 19 on the inlet side of the partition 8 in which the delivery orifice 9 is formed is normally held open against the inlet pressure by its stem 20 engaging the operative valve washer, but when the member 12 is moved out beyond its normal range, the valve 19 closes under inlet pressure. The valve closure face 21 may be conical, part spherical or plane.
