Abstract

609,518. Manually - actuated valves. BUTCHER, C. V. April 7, 1946, No. 7127. [Class 135] A tap or cock has a rotatable spout A provided at its inner end with a spherical valve member B held against a cup-shaped lining E of rubber or other cushioning material in the tap body C by a removable cap D. The inner end A of the spout is cranked upwardly and is in alignment with an angular passage B<1> in the valve member. A curved metal disc F in a circular recess D<4> in the cap D has a projection F<1> engaging a horizontal groove in the valve B. The cap D may be additionally secured by a set-screw. The spout part A<1> is supported in an open bearing C<2> which provides stops to limit the movement of the spout. The spout and valve member may be formed integrally of non-corrosive metal. In a modification, the disc F is dispensed with, and a small ball engages a recess in the cap and a horizontal groove in the surface of the valve member. The valve member may be made of synthetic resin. A portion of the lining may be cut away or formed with a groove or recess at the side of the water-way to allow a more gradual closing of the latter.
