Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 29, 1935]. [Class 135] The operating spindle for a valve or cock is formed in two or more parts, and a deformable elastic packing is provided between at least two of the parts 11<1>, 11<11> so that actuation of the spindle causes deformation of the packing to take up any wear therein. The packing may be of dished, spherical, disc or other suitable shape but as shown consists of a rubber ring 12 between the parts 11<1>, 11<11> which have an interfitting tongue and slot for guiding purposes. A weak spring 10 may be provided on the spindle 11<1> actuating oppositely to the closing spring 11 of the valve 7 to keep the ring 12 under pressure, and a collar 9 is formed on the spindle 11<11> to prevent moisture rising to the outside of the casing.
