893,671. Valves. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. Jan. 6, 1959 [Jan. 6, 1958 ; May 2, 1958], Nos. 446/58 and 14174/58. Class 135. A thermostatic valve, e.g. a disc closure actuated by a bellows containing a vaporizable fluid for an I.C. enginecooling system, has a circular opening 10 in the disc 7 through which freely extends a pin 11 having a fluid-flow permitting stop 12 at one end and a closure member 41 at the other end of such contour as to make a substantially line contact with a surface 40 around the opening and extending non- normally to the axis of the opening. Air flows past the stop when filling the cooling system while the closure 41 is moved by fluid to prevent fluid flow until the thermal bellows opens the valve disc. The closure 41 may be a hollow hemisphere co-operating with a depending spherically dished seat as shown, a solid hemisphere having a rounded edge with an upstanding spherically dished seat, an inverted cone having a rounded edge with an upstanding conically dished seat, or a closure member coned at both ends, the upper cone co-operating with the rounded edge of the opening.
