[Class 135] A stop valve, particularly for use in prepayment gas meters, comprises a body or valve member b actuated by a lever and provided with a flexible diaphragm d constituting the closure surface and coacting with a seat h. The diaphragm is backed by a metal disc e and is loaded, to maintain it in a taut condition, by a spring g of relatively large diameter, i.e. at least one half the valve bore.
