Abstract

418,003. Valves. NEWELL & CO., Ltd., Station Road, Misterton, Nottinghamshire, and BERRIDGE, A. L., 17, All Saints Road, Peterborough. April 18, 1933, No. 11242. [Class 135.] A valve for controlling gas or air under pressure and carrying pulverized material, comprises a disc 13 carrying a facing washer 22 adapted to co-operate with a seat 11. One face of the disc has a central lug 16 connected by a rod 14 to a crank arm 18 or eccentric on a shaft 20 passing transversely across the valve chamber and fitted externally with an operating handle. The other face of the disc has a pair of offset lugs 26 connected by links 23 to a bifurcated bracket secured to the casing. The linkages are so arranged that when the operating shaft is actuated the valve member is first moved a short distance parallel to its seat and afterwards turned into a position substantially at right angles to the seat. The lower part of the downwardly inclined seating flange 11 may have an inturned flange to provide a wider seating surface which may be fitted with a washer. The operating shaft may be provided with a pawl and ratchet locking device to hold the valve in the closed position. The actuating link may be attached to the same side of the valve member as the anchoring link.
