Abstract
396,522. Lift valves. JONES, G. E., 131, Glenarm Road, Clapton, London. May 27, 1932, No. 15059. [Class 135.] The steam valve e, h in an ironing-press is actuated by the handle q by which the head y of an ironing-press is raised and lowered. The handle, pivoted at r, carries a roller v which bears on the cam surface of a lever t acting on the end of a spring-pressed plunger i which opens the valve against its spring f. An adjustable abutment w limits the movement of the handle in one direction and a spur x on the handle limits movement in the other direction. The resistance ot the spring l which acts on the plunger is such that the press head can be lowered by the handle q without the valve being opened. When the press is closed, further downward pressure on the handle opens the valve by an amount determined by the setting of the abutment w. The valve may be opened when the press is open by a counterclock movement of the handle. The plunger i may be integral with the valve stem and the spring f which presses the valve to its seat c is then omitted.
