Abstract

431,202. Hydraulic transmission of power. LEPERSONNE, O., 2, Rue des Vingt-Deux, Liege, Belgium. Jan. 1, 1934, No. 88. Convention date, Jan. 6, 1933. [Class 69 (ii)] [See also Group XXXIV] In hydraulic transmission mechanism applicable to brakes, comprising a stepped transmitter piston acting with cylinders of different diameters to obtain different transmission ratios, the transition from one ratio to the next being obtained by cutting off a larger cylinder from the receptive member and putting it into communication with a supply tank by means of a valve, the valve is opened against a spring, by the pressure in the cutoff cylinder and a piston subjected to the pressure in the receiving cylinder. In the form shown, as the transmitter piston is moved to the right from the inoperative position, its parts 1, 1, 1<c> force liquid from the cylinders 2, 3, 4 through an outlet 5 to the receptive cylinder. As the piston moves, a valve 11 moves with it under the action of a spring 12 against the action of a weaker spring 12. As the spring 12 extends and the spring 12 is compressed, the force holding the valve 11 seated against the piston gradually decreases, and it is opened by the pressure in the cylinder 2. Liquid from this cylinder then passes into a tank 14 through an opening 23, and the cylinder is cut off from the receptive cylinder by a valve 8 closed by a spring 19. The cylinder 3 is next put into communication with the tank 14 through a valve 13 and is cut off from the receptive cylinder by a valve 8 closed by a spring 20. The valve 13 is connected to a lever 16, and is opened against the action of a spring 18, by pressure in the cylinder 3 acting against the valve and by pressure in the chamber 5 acting on a piston 15. A valve 17 allows the cylinders to refill during the return stroke of the piston. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also two other forms of transmitter. In the form shown in Fig. 1 (Cancelled), the operation of a lever 27 first closes a valve 20 to shut off the cylinders 2, 3 from the tank, and then moves a piston 1. After a certain travel, the piston 1 contacts with the ball 6, causes it to close the conduit 5 and moves the piston 1. The valve 13 is acted on by a lever 16, itself acted on by a spring 18 and piston 15. In the form shown in Fig. 5 (Cancelled), the valve 11 is acted on by a spring 12, adjustable by a member 23, its stem has an adjustable stop 25, and it is shaped as shown. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
