Abstract

515,709. Hydraulic transmission of power. LEPERSONNE, O. June 9, 1938, No. 17218. Addition to 431,202. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] In the master cylinder of an hydraulic transmission system suitable for brakes, as described in the parent Specification, the valve 17 which puts the low-pressure cylinder 6 into communication with the liquid reservoir 13 is extended in the direction of the high-pressure cylinder 24 by a rod 22 on which slides the valve 19 placing the two cylinders 6, 24 in communiction, said rod 22 extending into a compartment 15 connected with the receivers. The rod 22 carries a stop 21 for the valve 19, so that the valves 17, 19 serve as stops one for the other, and these two valves are prevented from opening together by making the face of the valve 17 exposed to the pressure in the bore 14 at least equal in area to the face of the valve 19 exposed to this pressure. A constriction 16 between the bore 14 and the seat of the valve 17 prevents this valve opening, upon a sudden increase in pressure in the bore 14, before a sufficient quantity of liquid has been forced through the valve 19. The ratio between the sections of the low and high pressure pistons 2, 3 is smaller than that between the section of valve 19 and the rod 22. so that. when the low-pressure cylinder 6 is cut off, by closing valve 19 and opening valve 17, the change over from low-pressure action to high-pressure action takes place progressively. In a modification, the valves 17, 19 are disposed within the pistons and the valve 5. which serves for refeeding the cylinder 6 during the return stroke of the piston, is situated laterally of the cylinder 1.
