Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 2t, 1921i,
Application filed April 3, 1918. dental No. $295M.
ToaZZ whom it may concern:
Be it blown that l, DAVID A. Dnonow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buftalc, county of Erie, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Pump-Valves, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, torming a part oi the same.
This invention relates to improvements in pump valves, the object being to provide a valve which shall be eficient and durable under operation atvery high speeds.
The following specification describes and the accompanying drawing illustrates a valve constructed in accordance with the in vention, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts, without departing iromfthe invention, the form herein disclosed being a preferred embodiment thereof.
.ln the drawings Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a valve constructed in acordance with the invention. 7
Fig. 2 is a top plan view oi" the same; and
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view with parts brolren away,
Refering to the drawing, 10 represents a cylindrical valve casing threaded for attachment in the valve deck, as usual. A spider 11 carries the central hub 12 tapped and threaded to receive the cap stem 13.. Above the threaded portion of the cap stem, the latter preferably is inclined outwardly, as at 14:, this portion terminating in a shoulder 15.
The casing 10 is provided with a seat, as at 16, and within this seat is mounted an annular resilient sealing ring or valve seat ll, of rubber, or other suitable material.
This ring 17, in the present embodiment, is held in place by the tom of seat 16 which is tapered to form an annular ridge 18,-but the resilient seat 17, may be secured in any suitable manner The inner periphery of the ring 17 is formed with a bevel face 19.
Carried by the valve stem is a second annular, resilient sealing ring or valve seat 20, which rests on the top of the hub 12, embraces the inclined portion 14: of the valve stem, and is held at the top by the shoulder 15 when the cap stem is screwed into the hub 12. The outer periphery of the ring 20 shoe with the outer surface oil hub 12 and 'is formed with a beveled top face 21 complementary to the beveled face of ring member 17..
Seating on the resilient rings or seats 17 and 20 IS the annular valve 22. This valve is formed preferably of light sheet metal, and preferably is dished in shape, its outer and inner flaring walls seating on the beveled facesltl and 21, respectively.
The abutment or cap consists of spider 23 with shouldered skirt 2% which serves as a stop for the valve and as a guide for the valve spring 25, which seats at the top against the shirt shoulder as. Provision is made for guiding the valve without intertering materially with the ilow. Tn the present embodiment, the inner edge oi the valve 22 is formed with a narrow collar 27, which slides on guide lugs or arms 28 projecting from the ca stem within skirt 24:. With this construction, a free flow of the fluid is secured from the inner edge or the valve throu h the abutment or cap between the arms or spider 23.
llt will be understood, however, that the invention is not to be limited to the construction or arrangement of abutment or cap shown, nor to the particular form of the valve proper, as the invention claimed may be embodied in various constructions,
The essential feature of the construction and invention is the resilient valve seat in combination with the light plate valve, preterably of sheet metal, by which very high -pump speed is made practicable and great valve durability secured, as compared with the usual form of construction having a metal seat and a valve or valve tace made of resilientmaterial.
/Vhat'is claimed is:
1. An automatic or pressure operated pump valve structure, comprising a resilihit cut seat and a light plate valve seating thereon.
2. An automatic or pressure operated pump valve structure, comprising resilient inner and outer seats havin beveled seating faces, and a light annular dished plate valve seating on said beveled faces.
3; An automatic or pressure operated pump valve structure, comprisin resilient inner and outer seats having beve ed seating faces, and a light annular dished sheet metal valve seating on said beveled faces.
4... An automatic or pressure operated ELM ltd
v dished, sheet metal valve seating on said myhanol.
' atent/a pump valve structure, com'pi ising a metal through the cap from the inner edge of the valve 'seat with an outer annular resilient valve, a backing spring between-the valve 110 seating ring having an interior beveled face, and cap, and guiding arms on the cap for an inner annular, resilient seating ring havthe inner edge of the valve.
' ing an exterior beveled face, alight annular, In testimony whereof I have hereunto set beveled faces, an abutment 0 1' cap provided with openings for the passage of fluid DAVKD DECRUWO
