Abstract

982,548. Filters for liquids. A. KNECHT. Feb. 6, 1962 [March 1, 1961], No. 4618/62. Heading BID. A lubricating oil filter 1, which is detachably mounted on the cylinder block of an internal combustion engine, comprises a flanged housing cover 9, which has bores 19 for the passage of oil and incorporates a threaded sleeve 10, a filter insert 3 of, e.g., radially folded paper, and a housing receptacle 8, the circumferential surface of the housing cover having closure lugs 16 provided thereon to form a bayonet connection with slots 21 arranged below hollow projecting portions 22 in an upper wall member 20 of the housing receptacle. A sealing washer 18 is retained below the closure lugs in an annular groove 17 in the housing cover and by the interior face of the upper wall member. The filter insert has a lower cover disc 4 and an upper annular cover disc 5, on which a resilient perforated annular membrane disc 7, which abuts against the housing cover, is fitted. A flanged head piece 2 is interposed between the cylinder block and the housing cover, and a sealing washer 14 is provided in an annular groove 13 in the upper end face 12 of the housing cover. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the housing cover has a stepped, threaded, central boss for screwing directly on to the cylinder block and a stepped bore for a non-return ball outlet valve.
