Abstract

965,328. Filters for liquids. FILTERWERKE MANN & HUMMEL G.m.b.H. Nov. 2, 1962 [Nov. 4, 1961], No. 41492/62. Heading BID. "Series" embodiment Liquid, e.g. lubricating oil, entering at 4, Fig. 2, flows inwards through a coarse filter 2 (optionally of paper), and passes downwards from a central hole in its lower end disc 22, through apertures 13 in a partition 9, and inwards through a fine filter 3 ; filtered liquid is discharged through a sleeve 11. The coarse filter is held in place by disc 22 being engaged by an annular sealing surface 24 at the top of the fine-filter housing 8, the partition 9, forming the top of the housing, being provided with a threaded collar 10 to engage sleeve 11 for this purpose. A valve 31 is provided for bypassing the fine filter and a valve 30 for bypassing both filters. "Parallel" embodiments In Fig. 3 the inlet spaces of the two filters are in communication for simultaneous inflow. The coarse filter is separate from the fine filter, being held in place by a threaded member 44. The outlet spaces of both the filters are in communication with sleeve 11-the fine filter by the lower end of the sleeve and the coarse filter by apertures 42 in the sleeve wall. In Fig. 1 (not shown), the inlet spaces are in communication but the coarse filter has a separate outlet, and sleeve 11 (for the fine filter) has a restriction. Also, the coarse filter is held in place by a spring between its lower end and the partition 9.
