Abstract

1357723 Oil filter J W HOLLAND and R D PIMLEY-SMITH 25 June 1971 [26 March 1970] 14683/70 Heading BID A filter for hydraulic or engine oil comprises a housing enclosing an axial flow, annular filter element which is engaged over a boss 4 at one end and sealed thereto by a gasket 15 (Fig. 2, not shown) of L-section. Optional sleeve 8 may be integral with boss 4 or separate and sealed thereto by gasket 9. The element may be a roll of toilet paper on a cardboard sleeve and have a stockinette cover. The upper, inlet end of the element is not supported, but the lower end rests on perforate plate 10, as does gasket 15. Gasket 15 has a cylindrical bore and comprises a sleeve, whose outer surface has two portions of different taper, and an end flange with a flat bottom and a top surface whose inner and outer portions are respectively flat and tapered. The lower portion of the outer surface could be cylindrical, and all taper angles are exemplified. Bores 5 are for mounting the filter housing.
