Abstract

1358975 Oil filter J W HOLLAND 25 June 1971 [26 March 1970] 37977/73 Divided out of 1357720 Heading B1D A filter for hydraulic or engine oil comprises a housing enclosing an axial flow filter element in the form of a roll of toilet or other paper, possibly having a stockinette cover, which is sealed to a boss 4 at one end of the housing and to the housing wall by being compressed between tapered surfaces of boss 4 and wall 21. As shown, both the boss and the wall have lower sections with tapers of 75 to 85 degrees (half cone angle) and upper sections with tapes of 5 to 15 degrees (half cone angle). Above the latter section the housing wall has an internal taper of 3 degrees to assist manufacture and filter element replacement. Optional sleeve 8 may be integral with boss 4 or a push fit thereon, with a sealing gasket. Perforate plate 10 supports the lower, downstream end of the element, whose upper end is free. Bores 5 are for mounting the housing.
