Abstract

1451535 Gear pumps TRW Inc 4 Feb 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 04971/74 Heading F1F An externally meshing gear pump comprises gears 12, 13 mounted in a recess 11 in a casing member 10, a pressure plate 21 engaging the side of the gears at the open end of the recess so as to have a peripheral clearance with the recess wall, a cover member 24 which abuts casing member 10 to close recess 11 and which has a recess of the general shape shown in Fig. 2, i.e. with an outer annular channel, channels surrounding the gear bearings, and bridging channels therebetween, and a seal pack mounted in the recess in the cover member 24 to sealing bridge the clearance between the wall of recess 11 and the "floating" pressure plate 21. The seal pack comprises a paper-type member 40 adjacent plate 21 and made of material sold under the Trade Mark "NOMEX", a steel plate 41, a further member 42 similar to member 40 and a resilient biasing a sealing member 43. Outlet pressure is communicated to the recess behind member 43 via passage 44 to cause the seal pack to continuously and flexibly conform to the gap between plate 21 and recess 11.
