Abstract

1390631 Rotary positive - displacement machines CESSNA AIRCRAFT CO 4 April 1972 [9 April 1971] 15336/72 Heading F1F In a gear pump, or motor, leakage from a pressure-loading chamber 50 for a seal plate 36 abutting the gears 25, 26 into the working fluid inlet (31) Figs.2 to 4 (not shown), is prevented by a seal pack 51 comprising a gasket 52 containing an elastomeric ring 53 and lodged between side walls 59, 60 of a gasket 54, which abuts an edge 49 of a land 46 formed on the plate. Pressure is transmitted to the chamber 50 and a space bounded by the ring 53 from the working fluid outlet (32) across the edge of the plate and from the intertooth spaces through slots 48 and adjacent openings in the gasket 52, respectively. Walls 58 circumjacent said openings are on the inner side of the ring 53 and engage with projections 63 on the gasket 54. Bores 65 and recesses 66 balance the pressures on the projections. The outer side wall 59 is cut away in the region of each projection. A combination of gaskets and an elastomeric sealing strip similar to the pack 51 is lodged in a groove 70 formed in the land 46, Fig. 8 (not shown). The ring 53 may be replaced with a single strand elastomeric sealing element having an eyelet at each end encircling the respective wall 58. Depressions to effect lubrication of shafts 29, 30 are provided in the face 43 of the plate adjacent the gears.
