Abstract

965,256. Gear pumps and motors. WEBSTER ELECTRIC CO. April 17, 1961 [April 29, 1960], No. 13818/61. Heading F1F. A gear pump or motor has one or both end plates pressure loaded from points at least one tooth away from the discharge port. The pump comprises two externally meshing gears rotating inside a gear plate 18 secured between two end plates (Fig. 1 not shown) one of which (28) is shown in Fig. 7. A spacer plate 22 is secured between plates 18 and 28 (see also Fig. 9) and has an elliptical hole in which fits a wear plate 36 surrounded by a flanged gasket 80 which allows some axial movement of the wear plate. The wear plate is provided with openings 72, 76 for inlet and outlet passages 66B and 74B respectively, openings 83 for the gear shafts and slots 83 to relieve inter-tooth pressures. Gaskets 90, 92 fitted around the outlet passage 74B and in groove 96 respectively bear on the back of the wear plate, and the space thus enclosed has approximately half the swept area of the gear teeth and is pressurized by holes 100, 102. A metal gasket 112 may be fitted in groove 96, together with gasket 92 to reduce gasket wear.
