Abstract
532,809. Coating magnesium and magnesium alloys. DOW CHEMICAL CO. July 26, 1939, No. 21732.. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1938. [Classes 82 (i) and 82 (ii)] A corrosion-resisting coating is produced on articles of magnesium or its alloys by treating the articles with a solution of an alkali carbonate under pressure at a temperature above the boiling point and below 250‹C. The coating may be coloured by subsequent immersion in an aqueous solution of a dye. Magnesium alloys containing 0.3 per cent. of manganese and 4.0 per cent. of aluminium, and 0.7 per cent. of zinc, 0.2 per cent. of manganese and 6.5 per cent. of aluminium are referred to.
