Abstract
527,754. Surface treatment of aluminium. VEREINIGTE ALUMINIUM-WERKE AKT.-GES. April 20, 1939, No. 11884. Convention date, May 4, 1938. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Aluminium or an alloy thereof is prepared for electroplating by treatment in a molten salt bath whereby an oxide layer is produced. This is washed in water and loosened up by treatment in an alkaline bath, e.g., of sodium carbonate; the article is then immediately introduced into the plating bath. The molten bath may be of potassium nitrate or of a eutectic mixture of this with sodium or lithium nitrate ; it may contain an oxidizing addition, e.g., of potassium chromate.
