Abstract

531,062. Feedwater supply systems. ARROWSMITH, G., and HICK, HARGREAVES & CO., Ltd. July 11, 1939, No. 20194. [Class 123 (ii)] Make-up feedwater supplied to an open surge tank 9 connected by a stand pipe 8 to the feed line between the extraction pump 2 and feed pump 3 is circulated by a pump 16 through a heater 18 and a steam jet operated spray de-aerator 13. The lower part of the tank is provided with horizontal baffles 12 to prevent circulation within the tank. A separate tank containing horizontal baffles may be inserted in the stand-pipe between the main tank and the feed line. In place of a separate de-aerator, the lower part of the stand pipe may be connected to the lower part of the condenser shell through fine spray nozzle. The flow of water to the nozzle is so controlled that the water pressure of the extraction pump holds the valve open. Specification 331,528, [Class 123 (ii)], is referred to.
