Abstract
531,041. Retort furnaces. SAUREFABRIK SCHWEIZERHALL. July 10, 1939, No. 20078. Convention date, July 21, 1938. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group III] A retort furnace comprises a plurality of retorts of circular, elliptical, oval, or rectangular cross section suspended in a heating chamber, the opposite sides of the retorts being in contact with or connected to, the walls of the chamber, to form a plurality of shafts to which heating gases are admitted at the top through the chamber walls. A further retort may be similarly disposed in the chamber, preferably at the cool end. As shown retorts c', c<SP>2</SP> are connected by walls d<SP>3</SP>, d<SP>4</SP> to the walls of a heating chamber ; g is a further retort. Heating gases enter through apertures e<SP>4</SP> ... e<SP>6</SP>, pass down over the retorts, under the bottoms thereof, up one side of the retort g, and out of the chamber.
