Abstract
530,129. Artificial silk &c. VEREINIGTE GLANZSTOFF-FABRIKEN AKT.-GES. June 16, 1939, No. 17685. Convention date, June 16, 1938. [Class 2 (ii)] Strong filaments are obtained from viscose by extruding the viscose into an acid primary bath containing iron sulphate, and then subjecting the filaments to a high degree of stretch-, ing in a hot secondary bath, the temperature of which is above 60C. Viscose is spun into a bath containing per litre 125 grams H 2 SO 4 , 260 grams Na 2 SO 4 , and 50 grams FeSO 4 . The filaments are passed to a secondary bath heated to 85C. and stretched by means of rollers. The secondary bath may contain the same ingredients as the first bath but in more diluted form, and these ingredients may be introduced into the secondary bath by the filaments themselves which carry them from the first bath. The temperature of the secondary bath may be as high as the boiling temperature of the water in the bath. The primary bath may be heated, e.g. to 50C. Substantially no clogging of the spinning orifices occurs when using ferrous sulphate in the primary bath. Specification 467,500 is referred to.
