Abstract
287,492. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. March 21, 1927, [Convention date]. Cellulose xanthates, and processes for making filaments from.-Cellulose xanthate is purified by treating it with an aqueous alcohol, particularly methanol containing 70-80 per cent by volume of alcohol, the percentage of alcohol being calculated as anhydrous alcohol and having regard to the water content of the xanthate. The treatment is effected as rapidly as possible at a low temperature and then the liquid is quickly separated by pressing. The press cake, after being quickly broken up if desired, but without being dried, is at once dissolved to form viscose suitable for spinning artificial silk. Alternatively, the treatment may bo carried out in two stages, the strength of the alcohol in the first stage conforming with the above limitation. The aqueous alcohol may be recovered after use and returned to the process. Specification 8023/08 is referred to.
