Abstract

304,244. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Jan. 17, 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 303,514. Cellulose xanthates, processes for making filaments from.-The process for producing viscose threads &c. described in the parent Specification, is modified by employing a bath containing no mineral acid or a proportion of mineral acid not exceeding 12 per cent, calculated as sulphuric acid, and a correspondingly increased proportion of the added organic substance of high molecular weight so that the bath is maintained substantially or completely saturated with respect to the latter. In examples, coagulation baths for spinning unmatured viscose contain 37.5 per cent of the condensation product of naphthalenesulphonic acid and formaldehyde prepared as described in example 1 of Specification 7137/13, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], and 12 per cent sulphuric acid, and 25 per cent of sodium carbazolesulphonate and 9 per cent sulphuric acid. The threads obtained show a tensile strength of 2.5-2.65 gms. per denier, and in the latter case they are dyed a violet-brown shade.
