Abstract
303,514. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Jan. 5, 1928, [Convention date]. Cellulose xanthates, processes for making filaments and films from.-For the manufacture of threads, bands, films, &c. from viscose, particularly unmatured viscose, there is employed a mineral acid coagulation bath containing an addition of an organic substance of high molecular weight having tanning properties and known to have a favourable influence on the precipitation of viscose, such as sodium carbazolesulphonate and the product of reaction of formaldehyde on naphthalene sulphonic acid; the mineral acid content of the bath is at least 25 per cent and does not exceed about 42 per cent, and the bath is saturated or subsstantially saturated with the added substance. In examples, baths containing 35 and 42 per cent of sulphuric acid and 2.3-5.0 per cent of the organic substance are employed, and to these baths may be added a small proportion, for example 2 per cent, of sodium sulphate. The temperature of the bath is preferably below 15‹ C. or even below 0‹ C., and the threads may be wound on spools and finally treated in a bath containing for example 14.5 per cent of sulphuric acid.
