Abstract

Viscose artificial silk of improved tensile strength is made by spinning a viscose solution into a spinning bath containing 6,5-12 per cent sulphuric acid, 4-10 per cent zinc sulphate, and 0,1-1 per cent nickel or cobalt sulphate, and preferably containing 14-26 per cent sodium sulphate with or without a small quantity of glucose. The freshly spun filaments may be stretched 40-100 per cent while subjecting them to the action of steam or water heated to 60-100 DEG C. Viscose prepared from cotton pulp or wood pulp purified to a high a - cellulose content is preferably employed. Specification 248,750, [Class 2 (ii)], is referred to.
