Abstract

Cellulosic fibres, spun or unspun, are treated with an aqueous solution or emulsion of colophony and dried. Softening agents, weighting agents, antiseptics, stiffening agents or the like may be used in addition. Fibre so treated is easier to spin and gives a stronger yarn. In an example, viscose is treated for 16 mins. at 45 DEG C. in water containing 1 per cent of an emulsion comprising colophony, glue, cetyl sodium sulphate, and some caustic soda and salicyclic acid; the material is centrifuged and dried. Specification 388,157 is referred to. British Specification 359,897 and U.S.A.
